Northeast Amateur Invitational Golf Tournament
The Northeast Amateur Invitational just celebrated
its 50th year of hosting many of the best amateur players in the world.
The Tournament began in 1962 and was played as a
54 hole event until 1968. The Tournament is an invitational event conducted at stroke
play over 72 holes and is limited to 84 players.
Contestants are selected on the basis of their competitive
record and accomplishments in major tournaments.
The play is over four days with an 18 hole round each
day. There will be cut after 54 holes to low 50 and
ties. Play will be in twosomes. There will be an AM-AM tournament held
on Tuesday consisting of 32 4-man teams of one contestant and 3 member/sponsors.
The 32 contestants will be chosen by the committee. Prizes will be awarded at the
Tournament Dinner at conclusion of the play that day.
The course will be open for practice all day Monday
and until 12 noon on Tuesday.
Following the end of the final round of play, the
winner is awarded a crystal trophy and the traditional Northeast blazer. His name
will be added to the permanent Northeast trophy which is displayed in the clubhouse
and his photograph is subsequently placed on the Wall of Champions at Wannamoisett
Country Club.
The next four finishers are awarded crystal trophies. The low mid-amateur after 72 holes will be awarded the Joseph J. Sprague Award.

Accommodations
The Committee has accommodations in private homes
available beginning Monday, June 18th. If you wish to make arrangements for such
housing to be made, please indicate on the acceptance form.
Arrivals
Please be sure you indicate the method of transportation
you will be using and the date and approximate time of your arrival. The enclosed
directions will be of assistance to those driving. Call (401) 434-1200 and transportation
from T.F. Green Airport (Providence, RI) will be provided.
Registration
A registration and information center will be at Wannamoisett
Country Club beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 18th. Please check in at the center
on your arrival for full information concerning caddies, schedules, meals, housing,
starting times, etc.
Practice
Wannamoisett Country Club will be available for practice
Monday, June 18th after 8 a.m. until 12:30 Tuesday, June 19th. The player must personally
register with the NEAI Registration Office prior to any practice. He then may play at his pleasure. For earlier practice privileges, you must be invited and accompanied by a Wannamoisett member during the course of your practice round.
Dress
Shorts are permitted during pracice rounds and player/sponsor tournament only, not during tournament play. Collarless shirts are prohibited.
Caddies
Caddies are required during tournament play. Caddies will be provided by the Committee or you can bring your own. Caddies may wear shorts during tournament play. Caddy fees are $35 per day plus tip.
Spikes
Wannamoisett has a policy that prohibits the use of metal spikes.
